As Mayor of Ukraine’s capital, I often receive luxury presents. Such presents are also given to my deputies at various official meetings with the delegations from other cities and countries. I think that the presents that I receive as Mayor is the property of the city and its citizens. I think it is absolutely unfair to lock them in my office.

Social help becomes personalized. With this view, I initiated the introduction of social cards for Kiev citizens that will contain the data on all the benefits they have: transport, medicine, public services, pension and social bonuses… 

As mayor, I consider the security of Kiev citizens to be my overriding aim. Under the conditions of unstable government policy, economic crisis and constant failures in gas supply, my team and I are trying to ensure that the homes of Kiev citizens are warm, the water is clean and the communal halls are neat. I suggested establishing individual prices for public services for each house. These prices will depend on two factors

I have never tried to conceal my conviction that we should support underprivileged citizens, as well as at the expense of the rich. My idea is that the rich should pay for the poor. The introduction of a so called “luxury tax” will help me in the realization of this idea. It will be a special contribution made to help disadvantaged Kiev citizens and paid in cash or other form by people who have high and super high income.   

Every year the special commission chooses grant-aided students who receive from me monetary awards. In 2008, I have handed over 150 grants and 60 awards to the cleverest, hardworking and most talented students. However, I am sure there are much more young men in Kiev, who deserve compensation, therefore in 2009 I intend to award 1000 talented students.

I know that Kiev citizens approve of my idea to hold agricultural trade fairs in Kiev every weekend. No other trade fair today is of such success and high demand as this one is. Here you can buy all necessary goods right from a manufacturer at a price that is 10-15% lower than the market price. 

Andreevsky descent is one of my favorite streets in Kiev. I am sure Kiev citizens and the guests of the capital will share my opinion. It is one of the most ancient Kiev streets, it’s a museum street. Practically every tourist that comes to the city will visit this place. This steep winding street is a popular destination for creative people. The buildings along the street house numerous art galleries, exhibitions, theatres and art workshops.

Children – are our future, and my goal is – to preserve their health and to bring them up in proper manner. Myself I am a father, I have grandchildren and I realize very well what part plays health in the life of the rising generation. Today, unfortunately, we can see more often that many children and teenagers smoke, drink spirits, take drugs. I consider it my duty to do everything in my power in order to make these children to grow up healthy and become full-fledged members of society.

The priority of any power is to make children happy. As Nikolay Amoss says, there are two strong anchors in life – work and children. I always tried to be attentively to children and when I became the mayor, I have understood that now I have many children. After all every small Kyiv citizen is my child. It depends on me what kind of life will he have.
